For long-term hospitalized patients and their caregivers, they often have to make frequent visits to different hospitals for follow-up appointments. Besides the physical labor of commuting, they also need to spend time undergoing various examinations, making the entire follow-up process last for more than ten hours. Not only patients feel anxious and helpless, but their caregivers also experience increased stress and physical exhaustion.
The "Patient Concern Services" supports the needs of both patients and caregivers. In addition to regularly visiting patients at the hospital and organizing various activities to make them feel happy and cared for, we also provide accompaniment services so that patients do not have to attend medical appointments alone, thereby reducing the burden on caregivers.
Volunteers take regular shifts in the lobbies, Accident and Emergency Departments, blood taking centres and pharmacies of six hospitals to help direct patients and visitors and answer general enquiries. The volunteers also provide Patient Companion and Escort Service to accompany and escort patients whose cases have been referred to other hospitals for follow-up consultation.
Volunteers used technology and adopted flexible and diversified service modes, such as virtual ward visits, virtual programs, and production of recreational videos on singing, magic, sign language dance, drama, and community-related information for the patients, to enable them to stay connected with the community during their stay in the hospitals.
Volunteers continued to bring support and blessings to the patients by helping to prepare handicraft and festival gift sets for them on a regular basis.
