HKRC introduced the Disaster Preparedness Education Truck to provide the general public with simulated disaster experiences. This 9 tons truck is designed to resemble a sub-divided unit in Hong Kong. Participants can safely experience the impact of disasters on residents living in inappropriate housing conditions, thereby increasing their awareness of disasters.
Since its official launch in October 2019, the Truck has provided 102 days of service and reached a total of 13,554 participants as of March 2024. However, after several years of operation, the truck has started to age, affecting the participants' perception, experience, and learning. Therefore, it is necessary to refurbish the truck and introduce new storylines to cater to the diverse needs of different target groups.
The revamp of the truck aims to enhance the participants' experience and ensure a better understanding of the impact of disasters on various populations. HKRC will continue to promote and raise awareness among the public about disasters.
